The Penn State Alumni Association

What’s been happening:

After working in the State College radio market (WMAJ & WXLR) for 5 years, I left Happy Valley for our nation's capital in 1984. For 20 years I served as executive producer, managing editor, and moderator of the political talk show, "Close Up on C-SPAN." I left that program in 2006 after a great ride that included coverage of such things as the fall of the Berlin Wall and every presidential nominating convention and election from 1988 through 2004. Since then I was part of the team that opened the new Newseum in Washington, DC. And I've kept my connection with our alma mater very active by serving as an instructor for the Penn State Washington Program. I've taught a class on politics and media each fall semester since 2002. Currently I am the host of television and radio versions of the program, "Dialogue," which is produced by the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and can be seen and heard around the world via syndication and the MHz Networks. Additionally, I'm a regularly featured blogger for the Huffington Post. On the personal side of things, I married Sally McColl, a Dartmouth graduate, in 1993. We are the parents of two children, Jack and Ellie. We live just south of Washington, DC, in Springfield, Virginia.
